In the Victorian Era, astronomers were mostly wealthy amateurs who wanted to learn more about the world. This is because unlinke in America at the time, ther government did not fund this type of science. During the Vicotrian Era, many observatories were built, many theories were created, and many advances were mader in astronomy.

One of the major theories coined in the Vicotrian Era was the nebular hypothesis thought up by William Whewell.
